His book becomes a best seller and Chopper's original ambition is realized he emerges a cult figure, with a reputation as Australia's number one `hit man'. In a fit of paranoia, he kills a minor criminal known as `Sammy The Turk' (Serge Liistro), but manages to beat the charge by virtue of his now well-honed storytelling abilities.Ĭharged for another offence not long after, he returns to jail, where he later writes an exaggerated account of his life and crimes. Informed that he is now the target of a 'contract', Chopper visits Jimmy, only to find a man ravaged by years of drug abuse and failure, with two children and another on-the-way to his junkie fiancee, Mandy (Skye Wansey).ĭespite the echo of their former friendship, both suspect the other's motives and Chopper leaves. Suspicious that Tanya is involved with western-suburbs drug-baron Neville Bartos (Vince Colosimo), Chopper pays Neville an unexpected home visit in search of some folding stuff. Justifying his increasingly erratic behaviour with a series of lies, rationalizations and distortions, Chopper is finally attacked by his own crew and stabbed by Jimmy who is torn by their deep friendship yet driven by his own need to survive. George dismisses Chopper as a mere ‘show-pony’….a decision he will come to regret soon after he's fatally stabbed by Chopper in a fit of rage that surprises even his prison buddies, Jimmy and Bluey (Dan Wyllie). Most scathing of his critics is Keithy George (David Field), a hardened crim who rules H Division. To escape a domineering father (Kenny Graham as Keith Read) and repay a debt to his best friend, Jimmy Loughnan (Simon Lyndon), he has attempted to kidnap a judge (using a gun loaded with blanks) ostensibly to effect Jimmy's release from the notorious maximum-security H Division at Melbourne's Pentridge Prison.ġ976: Receiving a 16 ½ year sentence for his bungled efforts, and reunited with Jimmy in H division, Chopper attempts to re-assert himself by re-igniting a power struggle for the notorious Division, a tactic which wins few admirers.
